Hello,
I have all the publications that Jean Constant Verdier published in French l'Audiophile magazine. The first one from December 1979.
His idea was to create a platter that would give a high moment '' inertie '' One that would be difficult to change speed once it is turning at the right speed.
The shape of the platter he copied from the machines used to make records. He wanted to avoid a hollow space in the middle because that will make the platter sound like a bell.
Even if doesnt sound like a bell as much it will create an empty space under the platter which is not good.
Later other writers in that magazine constructed other turntables. Most turntables used lead.
They used visco elastic materials too. Now there are some newer materials that are made for special problems. If you want to isolate a camera in a drone you will another one than isolate a turntable motor.
If you have a motor like the one by Sota and the special pulley ( i asked a local company to make because my Scheu platter is bigger) The total weight will be close to 400 grammes. The motor is mounted on a 1 mm copper plate( 50 grammes i think) that is bolted to the POM housing with 6 m4 bolts. You can see more info on the housing in my DIY Scheu thread.
In the USA i bought a material called grungebuster to dampen vibrations.
They are sheets that come in 1 or 3 mm thickness.
We can try several things, have several ideas.
I think 1 mm would be the best if you wanna isolate the motor from the POM housing .
It will isolate some frequencies and the frequencies that will pass will be damped by the POM housing.
Or you can decide to mount the copper plate directly to the POM housing and hope that all vibrations present in the copper will go inside the POM where they will be '' killed ''.
I forget the total weight of POM plus motor but i am sure it was between 5 and 7,5 kilo.
The ground surface of the motor housing is 20*9 centimeter. The '' basisplatte '' i designed is also POM with '' bleikugeln '' . Probably i will use grungebuster material too between motor housing and basisplatte. If i cover the complete bodenflache i think 1 mm will be enough. Maybe 3 mm will be better. In the past i have been doing test with a stethoscope.
In the Scheu motor housing that my friend and i bought 20 years ago the motor itself is mounted by means of a foam ring. Changing the material of that ring does change the sound. Soon my friend will get a new choke input supply so i am curious if it will give an improvement too.
Greetings, Eduard
P.s The French also published a kind of platform to be used to put the turntable on. If i remember well it was close to 300 kilo., They wrote if you want it to work properly it must be heavier than the turntable itself.
In the attachment you can see the new motor with speed control mounted on a Sota turntable and the Sota motor including housing used on a VPI turntable

Hello,
The famous Hiraga prepre with Shizuki capacitors.
And the Isoda cable that also had an aluminium wire inside so you needed special solder for that one. I must have it somewhere but where?
The wires were directly soldered to the Denon DL103 which had a blei gehause!!
I am not sure if you still can do wiring like this with loys of SMPS and wifi around.
Greetings, Eduard
Hallo zusammen,

Tolles Angebot.

Hello,
This French turntable support made for a turntable designed by another famous ( in France!) Frenchman has some nice ideas. The support weighs around 300 kilo. The turntable itself around 70 kilo. The motor is the same type as used by Verdier but runs at a higher voltage. Is a bit more powerful. SO needs extra care because of vibrations ( here motorhousing is 14 kilo) and also needs a better supply to reduce noise.
The ''teller '' is 28 kilo. If i remember well it is made with plexiglass and lead.
