  • Hello,

I think i mentioned somewhere that i am Dutch.

My idea was to use some German words when they have been used by other members or when i was absolutely sure it was the correct word. Both my English and French are far better than my German. If i try very hard i might be able to connect a few words in German together that can be understood by any German. But it appears that most audiophiles are technicians and technicians are usually poor in fremde sprache!

Mouser replied to my answer about Taica products. The last line in their mail was something like we hope our answer was sufficient/ befriedigund for you. Two lines earlier they wrote they dont have a clue about these products because they sell electronic parts.

So if you wanna try you should ask elsewhere. Probably because the motor unit is only '' connected '' to the platter by the string and by the surface which support the motorunit and the turntable itself it could be that you have to look for special properties. Anyway like i wrote before these products have also been used to isolate camera mounted inside a drone. BUT there speed is much higher than 33RPM. In the beginning of the Verdier he made a prototype motor housing that was 3 kilo. It was not enough so he went up to eight kilo made in cast steel.

I think as soon as he started using a DC motor he abandoned that idea. But i think it still has some tricks to fight vibrations. There are the rubber grommets but rubber dries out and becomes harder and will change vibration killing properties. Theoretically it should work but if you use something that will make the motor AND pulley wobble and not give vibrations to the surface where the motorunit rests upon it will be wrong because should just turn without deviation exactly at the same distance from the bearing of the platter. It can act like it is drunk.

In the eighties i had a kind of platform to be used as an isolation for a turntable. It was very flexible. Brandname Stricto or Strikto but you use it with a turntable that also use a very flexible support it wont work because the total effect can be worse that just using one of them.

The people in France that i met using a Verdier almost all of them used something more heavy than a Verdier as a support for their turntable. . The French compared a scale for weighing very very light things. Both the scale and its support have to be very heavy. The lighter the weight the heavier the others ones should be.

I guess now the string problem is solved. Everyone has to try themselves.

I never met anyone using powder on their strings in France. One of the ideas behind use of a string was to introduce a light effect of slippery like i told before. By using powder you will reduce that effect. OK if you like it.

    Greetings, Eduard

P.s dont worry i can read German but Schopenhauer could be to difficult

  • Dear Eduard

Thank you for your great reports and pictures. These are all testimonies of the past.

I was able to meet Ron from Callas Audio Nederland. He helped me with a purchase for my NPV.

I also find his tips on PV very helpful.

    best regards

    Freundschaftliche Grüsse

  • Hello,

A few decades ago there were nice ideas available in France. The turntable i described with the plattter supported by mercury and using no shaft plus bearing.

One did pop up for sale. I didnt know it became more than a diy product. Of course there wont be a lot available.

    http://www.hifi-antique.com/view_product.php?product=12026

This one looks nice too. Made by one of the '' students '' of Verdier. Base from motor and turntable itself made of 2 slabs of marble with probably something '' flexible '' to bond the slabs. As you can see 3 feet at even distance from the center of gravity which is not the center of the record but a bit more to the right because there the base is bigger to be able to mount the arm.

Both platter and pulley bigger than usual.

    http://www.hifi-antique.com/view_product.php?product=16825

As you can see my platter where the belt is running on the smallest diameter ( 340 mm) also use a bigger diameter pulley on order to get the correct speed. If you compare the pulleys mounted on the same motor you can see the difference. Using higher speed for the motor is bad Verdier explained. The Colb turntable used a rather big pulley

I like the idea of the copper counterweight on the arm!! It will allow you to put it closer to the bearing. Of course with a lighter one it has to be at a greater distance from the bearing.

The platter has to be polished! But i like the looks better than most high class turntables available today. I think 90 % or more are UGLY. Most Thorens look nice, some old Dual like 701 look nice. From the new ones i like the Raven anniversary!

    Greetings, eduard

P.s The site mentioned in the link also has nice oldies look at '' regie & studio'' left corner down on opening page.

  • Hello,

Not a great deal i know but most ideas used and /or started by Verdier ended up in other turntables too.

Like the shape/diameter/material and weight of the platter.

    Pulley diameter and motor RPM.

Center of gravity and position of feet ( and 3 being better than 4)

The importance of the surface of the platter.

    The use of viscolelastics..

Of course you need to be able to read French. In the past the l'Audiophile magzine could be found online in the form of scanned pages. I have the paper editions as well.

    Greetings, eduard

  • Heute ist das gekommen ...😎

Und ja schon wieder Faden !

    Danke Normi.

    Siliconfaden runter, Einstellungen erstmal belassen.

Oben genannten Faden auf gleiches Maß gelängt. Allerdings 3_fach gewickelt.

    Fazit :

das ist NuN mein Faden meiner NPV . . .

  • Ok, jetzerda bin i angfickst.
