Ist es bei dem LM-210iA geblieben oder doch eher beim LM-211, der noch käuflich erhältlich ist? Den 210er finde ich zwar optisch sehr ansprechend, aber warum Begehrlichkeiten wecken, wenn man ihn doch nur noch gebraucht bekommen kann (wenn überhaupt)? Aber vielleicht wird er ja noch mal aufgelegt.

In meiner Kette (zum privaten Vergnügen) wird der LM-210 weiter spielen, zum verkaufen ist der LM-211 die bessere Wahl, da Rausch- und Brummfreier sowie mit universelleren Roehren ausgestattet. Der LM-211 klingt auch an JBL Lautsprechern recht gut, die ich ja ebenfalls im Angebot habe.

Das Tube Rolling beim LM-211 zeigte die üblichen Effekte, dh die eingewechselten Röhren hatten die bekannte Klangxharakteristik. Die Original Roehren sind aber gut gewaehlt, insofern ist ein Tausch nicht unbedingt erforderlich.

Aktuell beschäftige ich mich mal wieder etwas mehr mit Line Magnetic und vor allen Dingen mit den Möglichkeiten eines grösseren Line Magnetic Lautsprechers.

Doch bevor eine LM-222 oder LM-812 oder vielleicht ja sogar mal eine LM-3 bei mir einzieht, mag ich erfahren, was im Bereich der Verstärker Technik bei Line Magnetic so möglich ist.

Konzentrieren werde ich mich dabei auf die über Line Magnetic EU angebotenen Geräte, da diese den europäischen Anforderungen (zB kein Blei im Lötzinn) entsprechen und somit von mir legal (und mit Garantie) angeboten werden können.

Auf der Verstärker Seite bietet Line Magentic in erster Linie Vollverstärker an, die dann auch bis zu 10.000,- eur kosten können. Von diesen spielen ja bereits 2 Typen bei mir, so dass ich vorrangig an getrennten Komponenten interessiert bin.

Im Line Magnetic Angebot gibt es in Europa einen Vorverstärker und die dazu passende Monoendstufen, die zusammen im Jahr 2017 einen Red Dot Design Award gewonnen haben.

Es handelt sich um die

Line Magnetic LM 512 CA Vorstufe (UVP 12.500,- eur)

sowie die

Line Magnetic LM 503 PA Mono Endstufen (UVP 12.500,- eur)

Die beiden Geräte verbinden Modernität (zB fernbedienbare Vorstufe) mit klassischen Western Electric Schaltungen, die sogar eine selten genutzte WE310 zum Betrieb einer WE300b (Replik Röhren) beinhaltet, die wiederum als Vorröhre für eine 845 Leistungsröhre dient.

Die Geräte haben sowohl RCA, als auch XLR Anschlüsse, wobei der Vorstufen XLR Ausgang über einen Trafo läuft. Jeh nach Bedarf kann der Übertrager auch für RCA genutzt werden. An der Endstufe wird das Signal des XLR Eingangs dann wieder mit einem Übertrager auf Single Ended reduziert. (zumindest verstehe ich so die verfügbaren Unterlagen)

Da ich mir am besten eine Meinung bilden kann, wenn Geräte in meiner eigenen Kette spielen, habe ich mir diese Vor-Endstufen Kombination heute neu bestellt und hoffe, dass diese kurzfristig auf sicherer Palette den Weg zu mir finden. Realistisch wird dies wohl Anfang/Mitte nächster Woche werden.

Aktuell würde ich die Geräte mit einem Paar JBL 4367 Lautsprecher verbinden, ein 15" Basstreiber in Verbindung mit einem Horn sollte für den Anfang gut passen!

Nun werde ich mir einen passenden Plattenspieler aussuchen, eine Phonovorstufe gilt es auch noch zu finden. Meine Line Magnetic LP-33 versorgt ja bereits die "kleine" Line Magnetic Anlage.

Vielleicht sollte ich mal über einen Thorens TD 124DD Dreher nachdenken

bzgl des Designs bin ich da komplett bei Dir,

mir persönlich gefallen da andere LM Designs auch besser, aber in vielen Wohnzimmern wirken die „glatteren“ Designs gefälliger und sind somit leichter zu verkaufen, so zumindest meine Erfahrung. Das Design ist aber immer noch besser, bzw überhaupt vorhanden, verglichen mit Röhrenamps, die ich aus Serbien im Programm habe 😀

Heute hatte der deutsche Line Magnetic Vertrieb eine gute Nachricht für mich, hatte er doch mit Hilfe des LM Zentralimporteurs noch ein Paar

Line Magnetic LM-812 Lautsprecher (UVP ca 20.000,- eur)

für mich gefunden. Die LS werden zur Zeit nur noch in minimal Stückzahl angeboten, da im Zollkrieg und den NachCorona Wirren zwischen den USA und China die Ausfuhr von Holz von den USA nach China quasi verboten, bzw nur noch mit hohen Strafzöllen möglich ist.

Da diese LS aber aus dem Holz einer bestimmten Baumsorte aus einem bestimmten Wald gebaut werden (Die Gegend, in der die ehem Western Electric Schreiner ansässig waren), wird es im Moment mit Line Magnetic Lautsprechern in Europa schwierig.

Aktuell sind 5 Monate Lieferzeit einzuplanen, die Preise sind entsprechend hoch gegangen. Die gestiegenen Logistikkosten sind auch nicht hilfreich....

Wie auch immer, bevor es die LS gar nicht mehr gibt, bzw nur noch aus MDF....,

habe ich die Möglichkeit ergriffen und mir ein Paar gekauft.

Zum Einstieg mag ich ein paar Worte aus einem review zitieren:

THE HERITAGE OF THE PAST

The LM-812 Iconic is not strictly speaking a home speaker in the compact sense. We were warned, the Zheng brothers wanted to return to the sources of sound reproduction. At the time when the cinema was moving from silent to talking, the designers referred to the fundamental rules of physics which indicated that the reproduction of the bass required either an immensely large flat panel, like the 'Western 75W5 cinema speaker dating from the 1930s and equipped with

four 18-inch boomers mounted on a gigantic open cabinet, a very high volume load with or without a horn, like the 1937 Lansing Iconic loudspeaker from the LM-812 Iconic. The Lansing Iconic loudspeaker is regarded to this day as one of the most significant loudspeakers in the history of sound reproduction. For the first time, a downsized enclosure offered high sensitivity and an extremely linear frequency response between 40Hz and 10kHz from a two-speaker setup. It was originally designed by James Lansing at the behest of early recording studios that could not use systems the size of the Western 75W5s. Starting from scratch, James Lansing and John Blackburn envisioned a bass-reflex tuned speaker from a 38cm Lansing 815 excited boomer developed specifically for the speaker. It was relayed around 800 Hz by a Lansing 801 excited motor loaded by a horn

to eight cells. The result will amaze the profession with the (relative) compactness of the enclosure and

the overall performance obtained, the model met with enormous success with

professionals.

ICONIC SPEAKER

Line Magnetic therefore adopted the principle of the original loudspeaker

both technically and aesthetically, hence the extremely similar look of the student by

report to the master. We therefore find a very imposing cabinetry in plywood on which is firmly placed the treble midrange transducer with horn. A frame in cleats placed under the speaker acts as a base and decompresses the underside of the latter. The walls of the box are not reinforced, on the other hand a layer of synthetic foam completely covers the interior in order to ensure a minimum of cushioning. A large cleat placed laterally at the rear stiffens the structure a little, the rear face is screwed onto a frame attached in cleats and the ferrite motor of the bass speaker rests on a wooden base fixed to the bottom of the pregnant. Line Magnetic, the LM-808 with a rigid membrane in cellulose pulp, is not a 38 cm but a homemade 46 cm model, a choice guided by the search for the greatest sensitivity to the most low frequency possible. It passes the relay around 600 Hz to a Line Magnetic LM-802B compression chamber which uses the internal structure of the 802 engine with an Alnico magnet and a 1.75 inch diameter throat, or 44.45 mm. It is coupled to a multicellular LM-Iconic-812 cast aluminum horn, an almost identical copy of the Iconic's horn from 1937. The whole is firmly anchored to a heavy and sliding triangular frame, three knobs allow precise adjustment. - determine the depth position (phasing) of this loudspeaker. Second order filtering is placed at the bottom and back of the speaker, resulting in a single terminal block. The chamber is connected to a screw terminal block by a supplied cable which offers the possibility of adjusting the level beyond 600 Hz in three positions: -2, 0 and +2 dB.

MANUFACTURING AND LISTENING

Construction: If the builder has taken the spirit and philosophy of the original model, he also used the fairly basic construction method. However, the LM-812 Iconic benefits from modern materials and an assembly that

allows the body not to resonate excessively.

The realization is therefore of good quality, the system for maintaining and adjusting the chamber and the roof are

on the other hand of high quality. The fact that the rear face is removable will provide

the opportunity for future owners to calmly consider some upgrades. To the

reflection, it is probably what the Zheng brothers also imagined ..."

"Components:

The speakers installed in the enclosure are of very good quality. The manufacturer did not seek to reinvent powder and cleverly duplicated models of the highest historical consideration in modern versions. The high-pitched midrange motor in particular uses the basics of the Altec Lansing 802 model, a benchmark among the essential references which it should be remembered that it

was manufactured until the year 2000 (under the name 902 since 1977 with the adoption of a ferrite magnet). Bass: This is the first time that we have listened to a 18 ”speaker in a high-fidelity speaker. The behavior of such a transducer in terms of membrane weight and current feedback to the amplifier requires a certain "self-control" from the amplifier. Concretely, the LM-812 Iconic will not necessarily work with all electronics. We listened to them on Sunday morning at the Haute Fidélité salon with an integrated 845 single-stage tube with a remarkable sound result at the bottom, and it took our Swiss benchmark unit to produce a quality bass for the magazine. The damping factor therefore does not seem not the only criterion to take into account ... The sound pressure is high and quite different from that of a small 17 cm woofer. The bass goes down with power, control and a good cutout without dramatically exciting the body, and that gives a hell of a thickness to the message. The extreme low end is almost absent on the very low bass chords on "Winter Garden" in public by Stacey Kent, but the instrument retains a perfectly believable virtual volume and base. Medium: Few of the horn compression chambers have landed in our auditorium. Thanks to Line Magnetic, the dream has come true. We have adjusted

the level to +2 dB so as to find a subjectively linear balance when listening. What a wealth of stamps! What a definition! What harmonic magic! We have the impression of hearing everything, absolutely

everything in the musical signal. Details to spare, an incredibly three-dimensional and almost tactile spatial positioning of every note of the performance.

Soprano Anna Netrebko stood between the two speakers, with palpable emotion at each word of Madame Butterfly's “Un bel di Vedremo”.

Treble:

Announced to rise

at 20kHz, the LM-812 Iconic didn't seem to go very high in the treble even with the setting changed to +2dB. Like the extreme bass, the extreme high is short and

the yarn has a limited hair, which ultimately produces a stable, linear and very credible tonal balance. And despite this high limitation, the quality of the harmonic analysis and the depth infused by the very high sensitivity produce a thick texture and very documented note extinguishments, albeit slightly shorter compared to our benchmark speakers. Nevertheless, the rendering of the atmospheres is surprisingly realistic. Dynamics: The dynamic capacities of Line Magnetics do not disappoint, on the contrary. The slightest impact is delivered with a breathtaking sensation of power without ever having the impression that the speakers are drawing on their reserves. The lively touch of Pavel Kolesnikov interpreting Chopin's Mazurkas is restored with all the nervousness and instant energy desired by the composer.

despite the relative heaviness of the boomer, it does not destabilize the beautiful overall fusion of registers even at low listening levels. Its large diameter and high sensitivity demonstrate their virtues, the big Brazilian drums on "Winter Garden" in public do not lose any of their virtual volume when listening

muted.

Note attack:

The Iconic LM-812s are particularly fast thanks to the intervention of the compression chambers from 600 Hz. We are witnessing a perfectly coherent harmonic surge from the lower midrange, an important area for listening where the lowest harmonics reproduced by the chamber and its pavilion reorganize and vitalize the message of the bass speaker, even in the treble. Once again, the very high sensitivity contributes to the building of the responsiveness of the speakers.

Sound stage:

The technique horn implies some positioning constraints due to the more pronounced directivity of the speakers. After several tests, we finally opted for an orientation of the emissive centers towards the listening area so as to obtain a crossing of the virtual diffusion axes just in front of us. Under these conditions, which will probably worry buyers of LM 812 Iconic with small parts, the result is a majestically holographic scene and a layering of shots with remarkable precision. The presence effect is truly striking on the vocals, and the energy in the bass makes the atmosphere of the performance venue almost palpable. Superb. Transparency: Far from being the most neutral and transparent of the loudspeakers we have tested to date, the LM 812 Iconic are certainly among the most magical and the most desirable to have played in our auditory. It is extremely difficult not to be bewitched by this sound approach based on the feeling

sensation of realism, on the edge of the cone emotion that so few even extremely expensive speakers fail to convey. Quality / price ratio: No need to procrastinate, these big speakers do not appeal to the majority of us, neither their way of reproducing sound and their setting

implementation requires careful selection of the amplifier that will drive them. Three constraints to overcome that will discourage more than one. You might as well be warned. But lovers of concerts, sensations and emotions will be disappointed neither by their performances nor by their "realistic" price.

VERDICT

Thank you ! Thanks to BC Diffusion, the distributor, for adding Line Magnetic to their product portfolio. Already enthusiastic about tube electronics, we fell in love with these speakers from another time but such very attractive to listen to. Their vintage allure, old-fashioned cabinetry and the use of high-sensitivity “like before” loudspeakers all combine to create a huge amount of sympathy. Then just listen to them to definitely fall under their spell. Far from reproach, but musically magnetic. We love !"

Die Line Magnetic Firmengründer versuchten halt die Western Electric möglichst authentisch zu kopieren. Dazu gehört, dass sie am ehm Firmensitz Kontakt zu Firmen aufgenommen hatten, die damals zu den Lieferanten von Western Electric gehörten.

Und so gab es wohl noch Schreinereien, die es schon vor 100 Jahren gab und die ihr Holz immer noch lokal einkauften. Von diesen Holzlieferanten bezieht nun Line Magnetic ihr Rohmaterial, welches dann nach alten Methoden gelagert / gealtert wird.

Ähnlich sind die Brüder auch beim verwendeten Lack vorgegangen, auch in diesem Fall hat man die alten Firmen identifiziert und versucht die Lacke nach alter Rezeptur für sich anfertigen zu lassen.

Line Magnetic war ursprünglich als reine Hobby Firma zur Wiederauferstehung von Western Electric Produkten und Schaltungen entstanden. Die beiden Gründer hatten Ihr Geld bereits vorher "gemacht" , zB mit ihrer Firma Cayin .

Insofern ist die Obsession des Kopierens der Western Electric Originale extrem gelebt worden und hat zu vielen neuen WE Kopien geführt. So hat man zB gemeinsam mit Psvane die verschiedenen Western Electric Röhren nachgebaut und wieder aufgelegt.

Der Perfektionismus der beiden hat den Line Magnetic Produkten zu einem sehr guten Ruf verholfen, auch heute sind viele sehr feine Lautsprecher Konstruktionen auf den Komponenten / Chassis von Line Magnetic basierend, zB einige der Auditorium 23 Lautsprecher.

Ob allerdings das Holz in den USA, ähnlich zu vielen speziellen japanischen Hölzern nur nachts, bzw nur nachts bei Vollmond geschlagen wird (um eine bestimmte Holzdichte zu erreichen) kann ich nicht sagen .

so mögen wir es doch dem Hersteller überlassen, mit welchem Holz er seine Produkte bauen mag. Im Sinne der perfekten Vintage Kopie sollten es für die Line Magnetic Gründer eben Hölzer aus einen bestimmten amerikanischen Anbaugebiet sein.

Es gibt ja genügend Lautsprecher Alternativen, niemand muss die nun sehr teuren LM Lautsprecher kaufen, auch aus MDF Lautsprechern kann gute Musik kommen
