    Hello,

My knowledge of German language is not good enough to fully understand what is going on here. BUT i know some things are not going like they must be going.

Firstly Verdier in France should inform us where we can buy a Verdier when we are living in Germany.

Maybe there is something wrong between the German dealer and Verdier in France. THEN Verdier should tell the German people they can buy there turntable in any other country they like. If i would be a German wanting to buy one i would ask Verdier ( i do speak French) can i still buy a Verdier in Germany with good after sales.

Maybe Verdier does not like that there a companies or hobbyist selling Verdier with another basisplatte? If you can get the drawing of this board in dxf/pdf style and you can send that one to a machine company that would be ok. I think JC Verdier would like you to do the experiment and tell him the results. If the right company get the exact '' data '' needed to convert to a file needed to make '' drive '' a cnc machine it wont be that difficult . AND the 10 you will machine tomorrow will be identical to the 5 you will need to order in 2028.

You can ask them to make some cavities and depending on your budget and the construction of your house you can fill these cavities with dry sand, a kind of foam?, leadshot ( combined with oil like in the picture from Teres). Of course the board should come with instructions. If you have 60 mm diameter hole in a 60 mm high board you cannot make it 55 mm deep and fill it with leadshot because the 5 mm will bulge.

You just need to find a company close to your house where you can spend money on leadshot. I have done lots of experiments with lead ( so did JC Verdier) and spending 250 euro on bleishot will transform your turntable.

    Hello Ludwig,

By the time the NPV was introduced i think l'Audiophile magazine already stopped ( last number March 1995) So i dont remember reading about it.

If the platter is identical but the bearing is different the flywheel effect will be different too. I mean if the big Verdier will run longer after switching off the power it will offer more speed control just because of that.

As far as i can see the NPV will need more torque to start running and to keep running. If you use identical belt for the two Verdier the big one will be quicker at the right speed than the small one or not?

So for the small one you will need a less elastic string or a string with more grip?

Anyway it is not that difficult to understand that different strings will give different results.

It could well be that more tension with a more elastic string will give similar results to less tension with a stiff string. Just try.

    Hello Ludwig,

The French articles i have about what to use between pulley and platter are all about the big Verdier and written by JC Verdier himself.

The idea was/is the heavy platter because of flywheel effect will keep the speed under control. The string should be slippery so a change in pulley speed will not be transferred completely to the platter. I think better to have a slow speed change than a series of kind of shocking changes after each other.

He didnt like rubber belt because the grip on the platter was to big. And he wanted to have a considerable distance between pulley and platter and rubber ( at that time?) was not uniform enough to give good results.

It is weel possible that the NPV with a smaller platter and a different topology truly reacts differenty to the kind of string.

    Hello,

The old people among us will remember the song '' the lunatics have taken over the asylum ''

So now we need one or two people who will confirm us that changing strings or grommets gives a nice return on investment.

It could well be that not everyone will prefer the same string. ( i like either black or white absolutely hate pink and red ones)

    Greetings, Eduard

Hi Eduard, I would never use epoxy resin or similar as normally recommended for sealing polymer concrete for the reason mentioned.

I also used Metarex cloth for polishing my bronze arm base after some fingerprints got darker by the years. To my surprise the smooth surface disappeared and the traces of the original machining (grinding) of the base appeared.

    Hello Antonio,

This seems logic to me because when you will make the surface shiny like new without really polishing but just removing an '' upper layer '' of dirt those tiny scratches become visible.

In one of my projects i made stainless steel transformer covers that were giving a surface treatment that will give a regular pattern of scratches by a kind of scotchbrite pad that is attached to a machiine that will make it shake. After that i just apply some stainless speel polish made by 3 m.

I think if it is a small surface you could do the movement by hand.. Using a soft pad to create scratches in all directions.

    Hello Antonio,

The Verdier turntable is a turntable which performances largely depend on its condition. If the rubber grommets have seen their properties changed because being in a surrounding with low humidity because of central heating for a long time and you will have a string which has gone down in quality too it will be a good turntable but nothing close to a perfect Verdier.

My old friend in the south of France has been using a Verdier for decades and he used to work as a representative for a German company specialized in all kind of fabrics like cotton and silk.

As you can see in the pictures. he is serious about music. He studied piano at a conservatory so he will hear when the strings i going down.

    Hello,

So we wait for someone to replace the original ( if they are in their early teens)rubber grommets by new ones. Or if someone is willing to try a little extra by using products like the ones offered by Taica.

We should not forget that one of the decisive elements in choosing the properties and length of the string was reducing the influence of the motor. So if you could reduce the negative influence of the motor by using some '' high tech '' grommets that cost less than 9 euro a piece it is a good start.

Usually everyone likes other people to try.

The people from Groovemaster told me 2 years go that mounting the arm more like i have done for more than 3 decades isnt necessary because the base normally coming with the arm is very good. Now they offer one for nearly 800 euro and people here telling us it works perfect.

    Hello,

Sure the German one is a typical German machine as far as i can see.

The French one ( and i have spend some time there!) is a typical French one. We ( the French) think it is perfect and if you think otherwise or dont like the looks get something else.

    Hello,

It is all rather clear to understand all gear available in Germany should meet EU regulations. The 230 volts AC you receive also needs to fit into a certain standard. HOWEVER this doesnt mean that they both are perfect. Most of the time the products in hospitals must fit into higher standards. Usually they are willing to pay a little extra for this.

Most consumers dont care to much about quality . Most manufacturers are making things that will break down in a certain time because they wont us to buy the latest model.

P.s In the attachment my French broadcasting studio gear made in 1961. I have been using it for 3 decades now

    Hello,

If i remember correctly i already '' published '' the ideas about pulleys as described by Verdier in the early eighties. If you read some of the characteristics in the collection in post #663 you will know that some of them will be considered not the right for the Verdier.

    Greetings, Eduard

    Hello,

I am using the technique described in the attachment published by Jac Music in Germany.

As usual some of the gear you have will be more sensible to the quality of the 230 coming from your wall. For sure some companies could improve their power supplies and raise the price of the product.

Usually people will be impressed by a BIG toroidal transformer BUT many times this kind of transformer wont stop the garbage coming along with the 230 volt AC. Better have a split bobbin or have an EI transformer with a static shield that will filter things from going from primary to secondary side and by this way entering your gear.

    Hello,

    Happy you explained it. haha

So ANYTHING the cartridge detects that should not be there will influence the quality of the things it need to take from the groove into your hifi system.

Like i wrote before the easiest thing to do is to choose a motor that has minimal vibration. But you need more than that.

Usually there will be some vibration and the best thing to do is to stop it! If it can be reduced by the power supply it will be easy to start there if you know what the motor needs because not every kind of motor needs the same..

Once you have done that OR if you dont wanna do that you could try to isolate the motor using something like the Taica products. It could be a little bit trial and error like changing the tension on the string. If you change the '' force '' upon the grommets their dampening properties will change. For the turntable itself Verdier wrote he decided to go for a '' stiff suspension '' to keep the resonating as far as possible from the typical resonance arm plus cartridge does have. So it could well be that the mounting grommets from the Verdier are kind of stiff too. But it has shown that if the rubber hardens it will get to stiff and rumbling might occur . According to the Dutch importer. So if you create the right stiffness

with the Taica products and end up with a better damping ( e.g a bigger frequency range and/or a higher level of reduction)

We will see and hear. Fingers crossed.

    Hello,

OF COURSE when you did buy a motor unit costing a few thousand euros you must have spend some time with doubts about buying it.

But it will come with a paper that states it will run until the day you die.

And after all your friends have admired your Rolex will you ever admit that you are not sure you will buy it again?

    Greetings, Eduard
